abstract A surgical dressing comprises a pervious non-adherent thermoplastic film facing, a pervious thermoplastic film backing and a coextensive intermediate absorbent filler of needle-loomed fabric having a weight of 1.0 to 4.0 ounces/square yard, the backing, facing and filler being bonded together along their edges by fusion. Needle-loomed cotton or rayon fabric is arranged between a perforate thermoplastic facing film, e.g. polyethylene, which is non-adherent to a wound, and an air pervious backing of fabric or vinyl chloride film containing 20 to 60% of plasticizer. The margins of the films with filler between are heat-sealed together. The facing film has perforations, straight or curved cuts for the passage of moisture into the filler. Absorbent paper may be included between the filler and the facing. Specification 815,121 is referred to.
