titleOfInvention Elastomer mixtures
abstract 940,714. Elastomer mixtures. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. May 3, 1962 [May 4, 1961; Sept. 2, 1961], No. 16968/62. Heading C3P. Vulcanizates stable to ageing can be prepared from a mixture of an elastomeric terpolymer of ethylene, an α-olefine and a diolefine with active fillers, plasticisers, metal oxides, sulphur, vulcanization accelerators and possibly further saturated and/or unsaturated elastomers, the terpolymer being derived from 40 to 60% by weight of ethylene, 20 to 40 % by weight of an α-olefine and 1 to 40% by weight of a diolefine with two isolated vinyl double linkages, α-olefines mentioned are propylene and α-butylene and the diolefines mentioned are 1,5-hexadiene; 1,4- pentadiene and 1,9-decadiene. Saturated and/or unsaturated elastomers which may be added are ethylene-propylene rubber, butyl rubber, polybutadiene, butadiene-styrene rubber, butadieneacrylonitrile rubber, polychlorbutadiene and natural rubber. The term " active fillers " means conventional fillers having average particle sizes between 10 and 100 millimicrons, and those mentioned are active carbon black, active light coloured fillers e.g. silicic acids and alkaline earth silicates. In Example 1 a mixture of an ethylene / propylene / 1,S-hexadiene terpolymer, silicic acid, dicumyl peroxide and sulphur is vulcanized on to (a) a natural rubber composition and (b) ethylene-propylene rubber. In Example 2, the terpolymer of Example 1 is mixed with (a) HAF carbon black, stearic acid, zinc oxide, tetramethyl-thiuram sulphide, sulphur and dibenzothiazyl disulphide, (b) HAF carbon black, dicumyl peroxide and sulphur, (c) HAF carbon black, stearic acid, zinc oxide, diphenylguanidine, N-cyclohexyl-2-benzo-thiazyl-sulphenamide and sulphur or (d) silicic acid, paraffin oil, zinc oxide, diphenylguanidine, sulphur and dicumyl peroxide and vulcanized. In Example 3, a similar terpolymer is mixed with HAF carbon black, stearic acid, zinc oxide, tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, mercaptobenzothiazole and then vulcanized. The mixtures of the invention can also contain waxes, ageing protectives and dyes. Car tyres, conveyer belts, Y-belts and tyre cords of cotton, rayon, polyamides or polyesters can be made from or treated with the terpolymers of the invention. In the case of tyre cords, resorcinolformaldehyde resins and diisocyanates may also be added.
