titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to installations for the expansion of liquefied gas
abstract 940,513. Revaporizing liquefied gas. BOUDET ET CIE, and COMPAGNIE CENTRALE DE MINES ET METALLURGIE SICLI. Jan. 19, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960; Dec. 15, 1960], No. 2194/61. Heading F4P. An installation for the expansion of a liquefied gas, e.g. carbon dioxide, contained in a container 1, Fig. 1, under high pressure, comprises a vaporization chamber 2 provided with heating means, for example an electric heating rod 14, the chamber 2 being arranged, by means including a pilot valve 4 which is adapted to assume either a fully open or completely shut position in response to the medium pressure in the chamber 2, for connection to the container 1, an outlet from the chamber 2 being connected to an expander 5 adapted to reduce the pressure of the gas from the medium pressure to a low pressure. The chamber 2 is connected to the container 1 by a conduit 3 provided with the valve 4 and a filter 25, the conduit 3 terminating in a nozzle 11 which is of such a size that the liquid gas does not vaporize in the conduit 3, and the chamber 2 is connected to the expander 5 by a conduit 6 provided with a filter 26, gas being led from the expander 5 through a conduit 7 to which is connected a safety valve 23. The valve 4 is connected to the chamber 2 by a conduit 12 provided with a safety valve 22, for the control of the valve 4. The expander 5 is arranged within a chamber 16 having heating means, for example an electric heating rod 17, the rods 14 and 17 being connected to mains supply 15. A thermostat 27 controls the temperature in the chamber 2. Nitrogen which is stored under pressure in a container 35 is delivered to the chamber 2 through a nozzle 36, the quantity of nitrogen which is delivered being regulated automatically by a regulator 37 controlled by the gas pressure in the conduit 7, to which the regulator 37 is connected by a conduit 38. Admission of nitrogen to the chamber 2 is for the purpose of dispersing any particles of frost which may have formed therein. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the vaporization chamber 2 is connected to the expander 5 through an overheating receptacle in the form of a coil 41 which is in a bottomless vat 42 disposed within a heated receptacle 43, the latter being filled with a fluid such as oil, glycol, glycerined water, gas or vapour and the chamber 2 and the coil 41 being immersed in the fluid. The coil 41 is heated by an electric resistance 47 regulated by a thermostat 49. A drier may be provided at the outlet of the container 1.
