titleOfInvention | Process for the isomerisation of unsaturated hydrocarbons |
abstract | Olefins are isomerized in the presence of manganese iodide The catalyst may be supported on a carrier, e.g. pumice, silica, alumina, magnesia or silica-alumina, and reaction is effected at 300 DEG -700 DEG C. The olefin may be formed in situ by dehydroiodination of an alkyl iodide or by dehydrogenation of an alkane in the presence of iodine and optionally oxygen, in which case the manganese iodide may also be formed in situ by reaction of the hydrogen iodide formed and manganese oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate or oxyiodide. The olefin formed by isomerization may also be dehydrogenated in the presence of iodine to a diolefin; optionally oxygen is added, and/or a hydrogen iodide binder (e.g. manganese oxide or other compound) or oxidizer (e.g. molybdenum oxide) or a material which catalyses the dissociation of hydrogen iodide. Butene -1 or -2 may be converted to isobutene and vice-versa, isobutane may be dehydrogenated to isobutene, isomerized and further dehydrogenated to butadiene. Specification 895,500 is referred to. |
