titleOfInvention | Organic chlorine compounds |
abstract | The invention comprises 2,2-dichloro-1-m-chlorophenylethanol and 2,2-dichloro-1-m-chlorophenyl-1-p-chlorophenylethane, and a process for the manufacture of each of these compounds. The process in the case of the former comprises reaction of dichloracetaldehyde with a Grignard reagent formed from m-bromochlorobenzene and magnesium, and hydrolysis of the product of this reaction. The process in the case of the latter comprises reaction of 2,2-dichloro-1-m-chlorophenylethanol with chlorobenzene in the presence of a dehydrating agent. The second compound provided by the invention causes hypofunction of the adrenal cortex and/or the pituitary gland. |
