titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to oil-base filling compositions |
abstract | An oil-base filling composition comprises a predominantly conjugated triene drying oil and a solution of a gelation catalyst in a liquid mixture of dimethyl phthalate with one or more of a liquid dialkyl phthalate, in which the alkyl groups contain at least 4 carbon atoms, a liquid diaryl phthalate or a liquid triaryl phosphate, the mixture containing 25-75% by weight of the dimethyl phthalate and 0,5-30% by weight of the catalyst. The drying oil may be oiticica oil or wood oil, and the catalyst may be aluminium chloride, tin tetrachloride, titanium tetrachloride, antimony trichloride, bismuth chloride, copper chloride, ferric chloride, boron fluoride, sulphur chloride. An aliphatic alcohol, e.g. butyl alcohol, may be added in up to 40% by weight of the liquid mixture, and castor oil may also be added. The gelation reaction may be slowed down by addition of up to 20% of linseed oil or dehydrated castor oil. A terpenic compound may be added to the oil as a reactive diluent e.g. allo-ocimene, dipentene, myrcene, alpha-pinene. Up to 50% of a liquid inert diluent may also be added e.g. transformer oil, tall oil fatty acids, marine oil. The composition also may contain a solid diluent to act as modifyer or filler e.g. silica flour. |
