titleOfInvention Acidity removal from synthetic ester lubricants
abstract Esters prepared from (a) trimethyl propane, (b) sebacic acid and (c) either caprylic acid or 2:2:4-trimethyl pentanol are de-acidified by contacting, either alone or dissolved in an inert solvent, with an anionic ion-exchange resin. The ester which may be prepared by conventional methods, e.g. using toluene p-sulphonic acid as catalyst, are contacted by stirring the resin and ester, followed by filtration, or by passing through a column of the resin, e.g. a strong base type containing trimethylbenzyl ammonium groups on a polystyrene base.
