titleOfInvention New anthraquinone vat dyestuffs and their manufacture and use
abstract The invention comprises water-insoluble vat dyestuffs of the formula:- <FORM:0935595/IV(a)/1> wherein one X is the residue of a monoaminoanthraquinone which may contain fused on carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings and which is free from sulphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups and which is bound through the -NH-bridge to the pyrimidine ring, two X's are amino, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino, alkoxyalkylamino, cycloalkylamino or phenylamino groups and the fourth X is one of these amino groups or is hydrogen, alkyl or nitro. The dyes are made by condensing an appropriate monoaminoanthraquinone with a pyrimidine of the formula:- <FORM:0935595/IV(a)/2> in which at least three Y's are halogen and the fourth Y is hydrogen, halogen, nitro or alkyl, and every halogen atom remaining attached to the pyrimidine ring is exchanged for an amino, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino, alkoxyalkylamino, cycloalkylamino or phenylamino group by reaction with ammonia or a suitable amine. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print natural or regenerated cellulose textile materials by conventional vat dyeing or printing methods.
