abstract A continuous process for the production of acetamide comprises continuously feeding a mixture consisting essentially of ammonium acetate, acetic acid and acetamide to an intermediate point of a heated column where dehydration of ammonium acetate takes place, a stream of ammonia gas being continuously fed upwardly through the column at such a rate and in such quantity that aqueous ammonia passes over at the top of the tower.
