titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to sulphonyl ureas and their manufacture
abstract The invention comprises N-3:4-dimethylphenylsulphonyl-N1-tetramethylene urea and salts, such as the sodium salt, thereof, and their preparation by treating pyrrolidine with a reactive carbonic acid derivative of 3:4-dimethylbenzenesulphonamide, such as ethyl 3:4-dimethylbenzenesulphonyl-carbamate, or by reacting 3:4-dimethylbenzenesulphonyl chloride with N-tetramethylene-O-alkylisourea and hydrolysing the resulting N-3:4-dimethylphenylsulphonyl-N1-tetramethylene-O-alkyl isourea with acid. Pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of diabetes comprise the above compound or a salt thereof together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The Provisional Specification comprises N-phenylsulphonyl-N1-tetramethylene-ureas and salts thereof which carry methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, methoxy, ethoxy or bromine substituents in the 3- and 4-positions of the benzene ring.
