A polymeric coating is produced on an object, particularly an electrode, by ionizing boron trifluoride or silicon tetrafluoride in a gaseous electric discharge and, by means of an electric field, attracting ions from the material on to the object to produce the coating.ALSO:A polymeric coating is produced on an object, particularly an electrode, by ionizing an inorganic material, a silicon containing material, a fluorine containing material or a boron containing material, in a gaseous electric discharge and, by means of an electric field, attracting ions from the material on to the object to produce the coating. The treated material may be tetrafluoroethylene, difluoroethylene, monochlorotrifluoroethylene, dichlordifluorethylene, dimethyl dichlorsilane, diphenyl-dichlorsilane, dimethylsilicone, carbon tetrafluoride, hexafluorethane, ethyl silicate, trimethoxyboroxin, or methyl borate. |
