abstract <PICT:0933410/IV(a)/1> Apparatus for producing fireproof sheets (see Group VIII) comprises a moving belt 1 having a rubber surface which may be plane, corrugated or profiled and on which belt a fabric web 4 is embedded in an aqueous alkali metal silicate solution, e.g. sodium or potassium waterglass, supplied through jets 4, 5. The silicate solution may contain a wetting agent, e.g. alkali metal salts of sulphonic acids or the sodium compound of the disulphonimide of a heavy gasoline, or colouring material. The embedded web 4 is dried at 7 by infra-red or electrically heated radiators with or without hot air blown counter current to the movement of the belt 1 and is cut to size by means 8.
