titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to additives for fuels for eliminating deposits in the combustion chambers of engines |
abstract | Gasoline compositions contain esters of organic carboxylic acids and tertiary alcohols in amounts of 0,005% up to but not including 0,1% by volume except that when the gasoline contains olefinic and/or aromatic hydrocarbons in an amount less than 10% by volume the range may be 0,005% up to 5%. In examples gasolines contain trimethyl carbinol benzoate, dimethyl ethyl carbinol benzoate, trimethyl carbinol oleate, trimethyl carbinol metatoluate, dimethyl ethyl carbinol acetate, the acetate of 1-methyl cyclohexanol, tertiary butyl isovalerianate, methyl-ethyl-isopropyl carbinol benzoate, dimethyl-benzyl carbinol benzoate, tertiary butyl cinnamate, tertiary butyl pyromucate, tertiary butyl propionate, tetraethyl lead and methyl cycloperta-dienyl manganese tricarboryl; the proportions of saturated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and olefinic hydrocarbons, in the gasolines are given. A list of suitable esters is given, some containing halogen, nitro and amino groups.ALSO:The following esters, said to be novel, may be prepared by the general method of Norris and Rigby, J.A.C.S. 54,2088 (1932):-oleate of tertiary butyl alcohol, benzoate of diethyl-methyl carbinol, benzoate of dimethyl-isopropyl carbinol, benzoate of methyl-ethyl isopropyl carbinol, benzoate of nitro-trimethyl carbinol, benzoate of dimethyl-benzyl carbinol, m-toluate of tertiary butyl alcohol, m-amino benzoate of tertiary butyl alcohol, pyromucate of tertiary butyl alcohol, 3-phenyl-3-benzoyloxy ethyl butyrate and 3-methyl-3-benzoyloxy-ethyl butyrate. |
