abstract | A cheque or the like is printed in at least two different inks to prevent fraud (see Group XV), one ink being water-soluble and lower alcohol and lower ketone insoluble and the other ink being water-insoluble and lower alcohol and lower ketone soluble, said lower alcohol and lower ketone containing not more than eight carbon atoms per molecule. The former ink includes 1 to 2 parts by weight of Tartrazine yellow (i.e. the sodium salt of benzene-azopyrazolone carboxy-disulphonic acid) and 20-25 parts by weight of a vehicle. The vehicle consists of 2 to 4 parts by weight of glycerine and 1 part by weight of potato dextrine. The latter ink comprises 1 part by weight of a sulphonated condensation product of a phthalocyanine blue and guanidine and 1 to 3 parts by weight of a vehicle (e.g. octylene glycol or butylene glycol). Hydroabietyl alcohol may be added to the vehicle to increase its viscosity. Alternatively, the latter ink comprises 40 to 60 parts by weight of oxidized linseed oil as a vehicle, 30 to 50 parts by weight of magnesium carbonate as an extender and 5 to 10 parts by weight of a toner such as a monosulphonic acid derivative of phenylated rosaniline (alkali blue). A part of the cheque may be printed in a third ink which is bleachable, water-soluble and lower alcohol and lower ketone soluble, comprising 50-70 parts by weight of sulphonated castor oil as a vehicle, 20-50 parts by weight of aluminium hydrate, calcium silicate, or magnesium silicate as an extender and 6 to 12 parts by weight of a dye of the diaminotriphenylmethane group (e.g. Malachite Green). |
