titleOfInvention | Fluorine-containing organic iodides |
abstract | Aliphatic fluoro-iodides are prepared by reacting a halo olefine other than C2F4 having at least two fluorine atoms on the carbon atoms connected by the double bond, with a mixture of iodine and iodine pentafluoride in a molar ratio of I2:IF5 of at least 1:1, IF being added across the double bond; the reaction may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising metallic Al, Mg, Th, Be, Ca or Sr, in which case C2F4 may also be used as reactant. The invention also includes the compounds of formula CnF2n + 1CCl2I, where n is an integer, and the compounds (CF3)2CFI, CF3CFClI, CF3CHClI and CF3CHFI. The reaction is preferably carried out at from -20 DEG C. to +225 DEG C. In examples: (1)-(5) CF2:CCl2 gives CF3CCl2I and CFCl2CF2I; (6)-(8) CF3CF:CF2 gives (CF3)2CFI; (9) C2F4 gives C2F5I; (10)-(12) CF2:CFCl gives CF2ClCF2I and CF3CFClI; (13) CF2:CHCl gives CF3CHClI; (14) CF2:CH2 gives CF3CH2I; and (15) CF2:CHF gives CF3CHFI. Perfluoro isopropyl iodide reacts with chloro sulphonic acid at about 100 DEG C. to give (CF3)2CF.OSO2Cl which on hydrolysis gives (CF3)2CO. Specifications 926,411, 927,403 and 930,757 are referred to. |
