[Also in Group V] A ferro-electric ceramic composition for electromechanical transducers consists of a lead zirconate stannate titanate solid solution selected from within the area ABCD of Fig. 3 and containing in the aggregate 0.05-5% by weight of the oxides of at least one member of each of the groups consisting of (1) tantalum and niobium, and (2) yttrium and the rare earths excluding cerium. Up to 20 atom per cent of the lead may be replaced by calcium and/or strontium and the basic composition is expressed by the empirical formula where in mol traction: The composition is fired to form the active element 12 of an electromechanical transducer 10. Electrodes 14 and 16 are attached to the element 12 and leads 20 and 22 are soldered to the electrodes and connect the transducer to an electrical or electronic circuit. The Specification discloses several examples of different compositions and their electrical and electromechanical properties such as the relative dielectric constant, the planar piezo-electric coupling coefficient and the dielectric loss at 1 kc. Specifications 818,710, 843,919, 843,920 and 885,994 are referred to.
