titleOfInvention Improvements relating to biocidal compositions, and their use
abstract Textile materials made from cotton, wool, silk, cellulose acetate, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile or polyesters, foils of polyvinyl chloride, paper and wood are preserved against attack by bacteria, fungi or algae by impregnation with an aqueous or aqueous-organic solution or dispersion of a composition comprising a compound of Formula I <FORM:0926455/IV(a)/1> where R1 represents a C10-C14 alkyl group or an araliphatic group containing such a radical, R2 represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group, A represents an alkylene radical bound by a .b or a .g carbon atoms or a cycloalkylene radical bound by a .b carbon atoms, and a compound of Formula II <FORM:0926455/IV(a)/2> wherein Hal represents a halogen atom an n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, the weight ratio of I:II being 1:1 to 4:1. The compositions may also be added to paper treatment liquors.ALSO:Bactericidal, fungicidal and algaecidal compositions comprise a compound of formula I <FORM:0926455/VI/1> where R1 represents an alkyl group having 10-14 carbon atoms or an araliphatic group containing such a radical, R2 represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group, A represents an alkylene radical bound by a , b or a , g carbon atoms or a cycloalkylene radical bound by a , b carbon atoms, and a compound of formula II <FORM:0926455/VI/2> wherein Hal represents a halogen atom and n is 0, 1, 3 or 4, the weight ratio of I : II being from 1 : 1 to 4 : 1. Compounds of formula I may be used as their acid salts e.g. hydrochlorides or hydrobromides. The compositions may be dispersed in water or as aqueous-organic solutions using compounds such as ethanol or ethylene glycol monomethyl or monoethyl ether. Other solvents such as benzene, toluene, chlorobenzene or dichlorethylene may be used. They may also be mixed with other inert carriers or filters, e.g. cleansing agents, cosmetics or medical preparations p (e.g. anti-fungal foot powders) or with other biocidal or insecticidal agents in pulverulent form, as solutions or dispersions.
