titleOfInvention Steroids
abstract The invention comprises 17a -methyl-2-androstene- 3-(N-pyrrolidinyl)- 17b -ol-4-one, 17a -methyl-19-nor- 2-androstene-3- (N-pyrrolidinyl) -17b -ol-4-one, and 17a -methyl-19-nor-3-(N- pyrrolidinyl)- 3,5-androstadien- 17b -ol melting at 83-88 DEG C., having [a ]22D = - 205 DEG \sB 2 DEG (concentration = 1% in lambda ethanol dioxan), and a max 95% at 278 mm (e = 18500), and the preparation thereof by reacting 4-hydroxy-17a - methyl-testosterone, 4-hydroxy- 17a -methyl- 19-nor-testosterone and 17a -methyl-19-nor-testosterone respectively with pyrrolidine in a lower aliphatic alcohol, e.g. at the boiling point of the alcohol, preferably under nitrogen. Therapeutic compositions, useful for stimulating proteinic anabolism, contain as the active ingredient one of the 3-(N-pyrrolidinyl)-steroids defined above and a solid or liquid pharmaceutical carrier suitable for oral administration, e.g. the composition may be in the form of an elixir, suspension, tablet, powder, pill or capsule. The active ingredient may also be used without a carrier, incorporated in a capsule such as a gelatin capsule.
