titleOfInvention Process for the production of monofluorophthalic acids
abstract Monofluorophthalic acids are prepared by oxidising fluoroxylenes at elevated temperature and pressure with aqueous nitric acid. The oxidation is preferably carried out at 125-250 DEG C. using 20% nitric acid. In a modification of the process the nitric acid is replaced wholly or in part with nitrous gases. In examples monofluoroxylenes are heated in an autoclave with aqueous nitric acid or nitrogen dioxide and water. The monofluorophthalic acids are crystallised from the cooled reaction solution and filtered off.
