titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the production of membrane filters |
abstract | Membrane filters are produced by dissolving polyvinyl chloride or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride in a mixture of liquids, one of which is a true solvent for the polymer and the other is a pore-forming liquid; forming the resultant solution into a layer by pouring it on to a flat surface; and removing the liquids from the layer so formed, either by evaporation or diffusion. Suitable true solvents are ethyl acetate, acetone, ethylene chloride, tetralin and tetrahydrofuran. Specified pore-forming liquids are the series of alcohols from methyl to amyl, especially butyl alcohol, as well as glycerine and ethylene glycol-these may be used in conjunction with small amounts of water.ALSO:Membrane filters are produced by dissolving polyvinyl chloride or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride in a mixture of liquids, one of which is a true solvent for the polymer and the other is a pore-forming liquid; forming the resultant solution into a layer by poruing it on to a flat surface; and removing the liquids from the layer so formed, either by evaporation or diffusion. Suitable true solvents are ethyl acetate, acetone, ethylene chloride, tetralin and tetrahydrofuran. Specified pore-forming liquids are butyl alcohol (the series of alcohols from methyl to amyl alcohol is mentioned) glycerine and ethylene glycol, which may be used in conjunction with small amounts of water. |
