abstract | The invention comprises amino-quinones of the formula:-<FORM:0916368/IV (b)/1> where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each alkyl or R1 and R2 and/or R3 and R4 together with the nitrogen atom form alkyleneimine ring systems, A is hydrogen or the group <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/2> B is hydrogen or the group <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/3> or A and B together form an annellated ring. The compounds are made by reacting a quinone of the formula: - <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/4> where X is fluorine or <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/5> D is hydrogen or fluorine, C is hydrogen or fluorine or the group <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/6> or C and D together form an annellated ring, with an amine of the formula:- <FORM:0916368/IV (b)/7> in the presence of a hydrogen fluoride binding agent. Specified quinones are 2 : 3-difluorobenzoquinone, 2 : 3 - difluoronaphthoquinone and fluoranil. Amines specified are dimethylamine, diethylamine, diisopropylamine, Nmethyl-N-butylamine, ethyleneimine, propyleneimine, pyrrolidine and piperidine. Examples are given.
