abstract | An orally administrable tablet for the treatment of injections of the upper respiratory tract comprises from 60 to 140 mg. of a non-toxic salt of alpha-phenoxyethyl penicillin (e.g. potassium, ammonium or an amine salt); from 165 to 250 mg. of acetylsalicylic acid; from 125 to 150 mg. of acetophenetidine; from 15 to 30 mg. of caffeine and from 1 to 30 mg. of phenyltoloxamine dihydrogen citrate. From 10 to 20 mg. of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride; from 2.5 to 5 mg. of phenylephrine hydrochloride and from 1.25 to 2.5 mg. of chlorpheniramine maleate or carbinoxamine maleate may also be included in the tablet for decongestant action. The tablet, which may comprise conventional excipients, is desirably of the multi-layer type for maximum stability e.g. a three-layered tablet the layers comprising acetyl salicylic acid; phenacitin, caffeine and phenyltoloxamine dihydrogen citrate; and the penicillin respectively. |
