abstract | The invention comprises compounds of the formula:- <FORM:0910218/IV (b)/1> (in which R1 represents a halogen atom or an alkoxy group and R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group) salts thereof, and a process for their preparation by subjecting a lactone of formula:- <FORM:0910218/IV (b)/2> to isobutanolysis, preferably with isobutanol in the presence of sodium isobutylate, and if required esterifying the 18b -hydroxy group of the resulting isobutyl ester, e.g. with a 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic, 3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamic, or syringic acid derivative, preferably in the presence of pyridine and triethylamine. |
