titleOfInvention Improved process for the low pressure polymerisation of alpha-olefins
abstract Alpha-olefins are polymerized in the presence of a stereospecific catalyst formed by contacting a crystalline compound of a transition metal of Group IV, V or VI in a valency lower than the maximum with an alkyl compound of a metal of Group II or of aluminium, in the absence of solvents, under anhydrous and oxygen-free conditions at 20 DEG -90 DEG C., the monomer being kept in the liquid phase. Specified olefins are propylene and butene-1, while titanium trichloride, and aluminium alkyl compounds, e.g. triethyl aluminium and pyridine (as activator) are catalyst components. Small amounts of hydrocarbons which are not polymerized, e.g. heptane, may be present. Specification 837,301 also is referred to.
