titleOfInvention Process for preparing soluble sporicidally active solid polyglyoxals
abstract A dry solid glyoxal product is obtained by spray drying an aqueous solution of glyoxal at an inlet temperature of 150 DEG -400 DEG F. and an outlet temperature of 100-275 DEG F. in the presence of an alkali metal salt. The preferred salts are the carbonates and bicarbonates of sodium and potassium but other salts, e.g. the orthophosphates, metaphosphates, pyrophosphates and polyphosphates may be used. The product contains 2.3-dihydroxydioxane and is freely soluble in water and aqueous alcoholic solutions. If desired, detergent additives, e.g. a polyalkylene glycol, may be added to the feed materials to increase the solubility of the product in isopropanol. Specification 908,773 is referred to.ALSO:A glyoxal product comprising glycol, formic acid in the form of its alkali metal salt and 2,3-dihydroxydioxane suitable for use in sporicidal compositions is obtained by spray drying an aqueous solution of glyoxal in the presence of an alkali metal salt. The product may be used in the form of a solution in isopropanol or aqueous isopropanol. To increase the solubility in isopropanol a detergent, e.g. a polyalkylene glycol, may be incorporated in the feed materials. Specification 908,773 is referred to.
