titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to a container vessel assembly for the storage and transportation of liquefied natural gases |
abstract | 907,337. Storing liquefied gases. SOHDA, Y., and SOHDA, Y. Dec. 20, 1960 [Dec. 21, 1959], No. 43839/60. Class 8 (2). Liquefied natural gas e.g. methane stored at substantially atmospheric pressure in a thermally insulated main container 10 having a combined inlet and delivery duct 11 is maintained cool by withdrawing by means of a pump 27 the upper portion of the liquid methane and feeding it through a duct 26 and an apertured coil 44 to the base of a heat exchanger vessel 18 and subjecting this methane to streams of cold nitrogen issuing from an apertured coil 45 adjacent the coil 44 and supplied from a reservoir 36 and thereafter returning the so-cooled liquid methane through a duct 16 a pump 17 and an apertured coil 14 to the base of the main container 10; the nitrogen vapour formed in exchanger 18 being fed through a duct 30 to a methane-condensing chamber 29 forming the head of container 10 and from which nitrogen vapour and any uncondensed methane passes through a duct 31 to a multistage compressor 32 which liquefies said nitrogen and methane vapours and discharges them into the reservoir 36 and to the inlet of the pump 27 respectively. Steel mesh screens 47, 47<SP>1</SP>, 47<SP>11</SP> within the exchanger 18 serve to assist mixing of the liquid nitrogen and methane, a screen 48 separates frozen methane particles and a baffle 49 separates liquid methane particles from outgoing nitrogen vapour. |
