titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to pyrrolenine bases |
abstract | The invention comprises pyrrolenine bases of formula <FORM:0906802/IV (b)/1> where R1 is hydrogen or alkyl, R2 is alkyl, or where R3 is aryl, may be hydrogen, R3 is hydrogen or aryl, and R4 and R5 are alkyl. The alkyl groups are preferably C1-4. They may be prepared by heating a hydroxypyrroline of formula <FORM:0906802/IV (b)/2> with concentrated sulphuric acid or, where R3 is aryl, with concentrated sulphuric acid or a strong aqueous non-oxidising mineral acid, e.g. HCl or H2SO4. In a modification a compound of formula <FORM:0906802/IV (b)/3> is heated wth acetic anhydride, excess acetic anhydride is removed by distillation, and the residue is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid or, where R3 is aryl, with concentrated sulphuric acid or a strong aqueous nonoxidising mineral acid. Specifications 906,803 and 906,804 are referred to. |
