titleOfInvention Unsaturated compounds containing the pentafluorothio group
abstract Polymeric substances can be prepared by polymerizing or copolymerizing a compound <FORM:0905006/IV(a)/1> where R1 is hydrogen or chlorine, R2 is hydrogen alkyl or alkenyl and R3 is hydrogen, or R2 and R3 are joined in a cycloalkyl ring; and R is the alkylidene or alkenylidene radical corresponding to the alkyl or alkenyl radical R2 (see Group IV(b)). Thus CH2:CHSF5 copolymerizes with ethylene and with vinyl chlorine. Specification 891,552 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0905006/IV (b)/1> and their preparation by removing HCl from the compounds <FORM:0905006/IV (b)/2> (see Specification 891,552) by refluxing with alcoholic or aqueous-alcoholic NaOH or KOH containing 10-25% by weight of the alkali, or with a suspension of powdered NaOH or KOH in a non-aqueous inert organic solvent, for example petroleum ether. In the above formulae, R1 is hydrogen or chlorine, R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl and R3 is hydrogen, or R2 and R3 are joined in a cycloalkyl ring; and R is the alkylidene or alkenylidene radical derived from the original alkyl or alkenyl radical R2. Examples prepare CH2:CHSF3, CHCl:CHSF5, CF2:CFSF5, CH1CH:CHSF5, CH2:CHCH2SF5 and cyclohexen-1-yl sulphur pentafluoride, The compounds of the invention may be polymerised (see Group IV(a)).
