titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the production of vaccines
abstract Veterinary vaccines (oral and parenteral) are prepared from a metazoan or protozoan endoparasite which has been attenuated with a sublethal dose of ultra-violet radiation of a wavelength between 180 mm and 313 mm . Preferably, a substantial proportion of the radiation is of wavelength between 250 and 270 mm , e.g. that of 253.7 mm from a resonance type mercury vapour lamp. Irradiation may be carried out on a suspension of the organisms in a medium which is compatible with its viability and which is not opaque to the radiation used. Preferably, the organism is used in its infective stage of development. Specified organisms are: Dictyocaulus viviparus, Dictyocaulus filaria, Nippostrongylus muris, Eimeria necatrix, Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria tenilla, Trichomas foetus, Trichomas vaginalis, Histomonas melengridis, fasciola hepatica, Taenia raginata, Trichostrongylus spp., Strongylus vulgaria, Nematodirus spp., Ucinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma spp., Ascaris lumbricoides, Ascaridia galli.
