abstract The invention comprises a process for the production of a derivative of thebaine having the formula <FORM:0902659/IV (b)/1> by reacting thebaine with 3-buten-2-one, the compound when so produced and its addition salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acids. The invention also comprises therapeutic compositions in dosage form comprising an effective quantity of one of the foregoing compounds and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent other than water (e.g. starch or saline). They are suitable for parenteral administration (e.g. injection) as analgesics, antitussives, central nervous system depressants, antidiarrhoeal agents and sedatives.
