titleOfInvention Stable solutions containing vitamin b
abstract An aqueous Vitamin B12 solution of improved stability comprises the vitamin in pure form (cyanocobalamin) or concentrates comprising the vitamin in impure form (Vitamins B12 (a) and B12 (b)), water-soluble, non-toxic iron compound, e.g. iron peptonate, iron ammonium citrate, iron glycerophosphate or iron gluconate in an amount within the range from about 1 to 50 parts (calculated as elemental iron) per part by weight of the vitamin, and ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (E.D.T.A.) or a water-soluble non-toxic salt thereof in an amount within the range from about 10 to 1000 parts per part by weight of the vitamin the ratio of E.D.T.A. to iron being from 10 to 20 parts to 1 by weight. The solutions may be prepared by adding the Vitamin B12 to a cooled solution of the stabilizing ingredients. Other vitamins, e.g. ascorbic acid, thiamine, Vitamins A and D, riboflavin, niacinamide and pyridoxine may also be present. Specification 822,127 is referred to.
