titleOfInvention Improvements relating to salts of metallised monoazo dyestuffs, and their use
abstract Cellulose acetate is spin-dyed using salts of metallized monoazo dyes which are prepared by reacting chromium or cobalt complexes of monoazo dyes free from sulphonic acid groups and of formula:- <FORM:0902017/IV(a)/1> wherein X1 and X2 are metallizable groups in o-position to the azo group one of which is hydroxy, A is a radical of the benzene naphthalene, pyrazolone or acylacetylarylamide series and B is a radical of the benzene or naphthalene series having the carboxy group adjacent X2, with organio nitrogen bases which consist of at least 70 mol. per cent of bases imparting no dyestuff character and, possibly, up to 30% of dyestuff bases (see Group IV(c)). The salts may also be used to colour nitro lacquers. In an example the dehydroabietylamine salt of the cobalt complex of the dye 6 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 4 - methylsulphone-2:3-aminonaphthoic acid is sprinkled into an acetone solution of acetyl cellulose, the mixture is rolled until the dye salt has dissolved and the solution is spun in the normal way giving green threads.ALSO:Salts of metallised monoazo dyes are prepared by reacting chromium or cobalt complexes of monoazo dyes free from sulphonic acid groups and of formula:- <FORM:0902017/IV (b)/1> wherein X1 and X2 are metallisable groups in o-position to the azo group one of which is hydroxy, A is a radical of the benzene, naphthalene, pyrazolone or acylacetylarylamide series and B is a radical of the benzene or naphthalene series having the carboxy group adjacent X2, with organic nitrogen bases which consist of at least 70 mol per cent of bases imparting no dyestuff character and, possibly up to 30 mol per cent of bases having a dyestuff character. The dyestuffs and their metal complexes are formed in conventional manner and preferably contain sulphone or sulphonamide groups. Specified non-dyestuff bases include dibutyl-aniline, dodecylamine, xylidines, diphenylguanidine and dicyclohexylamine. Specified basic dyestuffs include di- and tri-phenylmethanes, xanthenes and dyes obtained by alkylating p-aminoazo dyes containing triazole or benzthiazole rings. The salts are soluble in acetone and are used to colour cellulose acetate and nitro lacquers (see Group IV(a)). In examples the cobalt complex of the monoazo dye 2-aminophenole-4-methyl-sulphone --> 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid is precipitated from solution by the addition of a solution of dehydroabietylamine or a mixture thereof with Rhodamine B. Further examples are specified.
