titleOfInvention A water-absorbing porous substance for use in the paper making industry
abstract Porous polyvinyl acetal is prepared by coagulating by heat an aqueous emulsion containing polyvinyl alcohol, an aldehyde, an acid, an oil and an emulsifying agent. The compositions in the examples contain: (Example 1) polyvinyl alcohol, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde, kerosine, agar-agar, polyoxyethylene cetyl ether and water; as Example 1 but with solvent naphtha instead of kerosine; (Example 2) polyvinyl alcohol, polyoxyethylenesorbitan monolaurate, water, polymerized rape oil or soya bean oil, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde and butyraldehyde; (Example 3) polyvinyl alcohol, ethyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride, viscous mineral oil, sulphuric acid, formalin and glyoxal; (Example 4) polyvinyl alcohol, alkaryl sulphuric acid, hexamethylenetetramine, acetaldehyde, kerosine and sulphuric acid; and (Example 5) as Example 1, except that paraformaldehyde and nonaldehyde are used instead of formaldehyde. The compositions are used in coated fabrics and laminates (see Group VIII).ALSO:Porous polyvinyl acetal is prepared by coagulating by heat an aqueous emulsion containing polyvinyl alcohol, an aldehyde, an acid, an oil and an emulsifying agent.
