abstract Anaesthetic solutions contain at least one compound of general formula <FORM:0901108/VI/1> where R is an alkyl or alkenyl radical of low molecular weight, R1 is an alkyl alkenyl or cycloalkyl radical or a phenyl or benzyl radical possibly substituted by halogen atoms or a low molecular weight alkyl or alkoxy group and R2 is a hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl radical and when R1 and R2 represent alkyl radicals R2 may be bound to R1 either direct or by way of an oxygen atom. Specified compounds are: 2 - methoxy - 4 - allyl - phenoxyacetic acid-dimethylamide, -diethylamide, -n-propylamide,-di-n-propylamide, -di-n-butylamide, -N-methyl-isopropylamide, cyclohexylamide, -N-methyl-anilide, -N-ethyl-anilide, -N-n-propyl-anilide, -N-n-butyl-anilide, -N-n-amyl-anilide, -N-n-hexyl-anilide, -N-allyl-anilide, -N-methyl-chloranilide, -N-n-butyl-p-chloranilide, -N-ethyl-p-bromanilide, -N-ethyl-p-anisodide, -N-ethyl-p-toluidide and -N-ethyl-p-benzylamide; 2 - methoxy - 4 - propene - (11) - yl - phenoxyacetic acid diethylamide; 2-methoxy-4-methyl phenoxy acetic acid diethylamide, 2-methoxy-4-ethyl phenoxy acetic acid diethylamide, 2-methoxy-4-n-propyl phenoxy acetic acid di-ethylamide, -di-n-butylamide and -N-ethylanilide; 2-methoxy-4-n-butyl phenoxy acetic acid diethylamide; 2-methoxy-4-n-amyl phenoxy acetic acid diethylamide and 2-methoxy-4-n-hexyl phenoxy acetic acid diethylamide. These solutions contain as solvents mixtures of propylene glycol, water and sodium benzoate or the sodium salt of a hydroxy benzoic acid such as salicylic acid, p-hydroxy benzoic acid or genitsic acid.
