titleOfInvention New insect repellent compositions
abstract Caprylic acid amides of formula <FORM:0899289/IV (b)/1> where R is H or alkyl and R2 is alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 being 2-6, are prepared by reacting caprylic acid chloride or a caprylic acid ester with the amine HNR1R2, or by alkylating caprylamide or caprylic acid monoalkylamide.ALSO:Insect repellent ointments or solutions contain as active constituent one or more caprylic acid amides of formula <FORM:0899289/VI/1> where R1 is H or alkyl and R2 is alkyl, the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 being 2-6, the active constituent being incorporated in an ointment base or a physiologically inert solvent mixture. The preparations may contain emulsifiers. Examples refer to (1) an ointment comprising caprylic acid diethylamide or monoethylamide, aqueous methyl cellulose solution, and an alkane carboxylic acid polyethylene glycol ester; and (2) a mixture of caprylic acid di-isopropylamide, alcohol-moist collodion cotton and perfume diluted with methylene chloride is converted into an aerosol by pressurizing with CF2Cl2, CFCl3, and a propane-butane mixture.
