titleOfInvention | Process and apparatus for the regulation of the supply of nutritive solution and airduring the growth of yeast in mashes for baker's, food and fodder yeast |
abstract | In the method of testing the instantaneous alcohol content of a yeast-producing mash, for regulating the respective rates of p supply to the mash of oxygen and nutritive material, by collecting the exhaust gas from the mash in a known amount or at a known rate and measuring the alcohol content, as described and claimed in the parent Specification, the alcohol content is determined by measuring, for instance with an electrical resistance thermometer, the heating effect produced by oxidizing the alcohol. The oxidation may take place in a combustion chamber to which heat is supplied at a constant rate or in a chamber lined with catalysing material such as a mixture of copper and manganese oxides, which may contain also other heavy metal oxides. |
