titleOfInvention | New hydrazinium salts, their production and mixtures comprising a hydrazine |
abstract | A diesel fuel contains as an additive capable of increasing the cetane number of the fuel, a hydrazinium nitronate which is an adduct of a hydrazine of the formula R1R2N . NH2 and a nitro compound of the formula R3R4CH . NO2 where R1, R2, R3 and R4, which may be the same or different, each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aminoalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group or R1 and R2 or R3 and R4 together with the atom to which they are attached form a ring. The additive may also take the form of a mixture of a hydrazine and a nitro compound as defined above which contains at least 5% by weight of the hydrazine. Addition of nitromethane to hydrazine or lower alkyl hydrazines is said to lower the freezing point of the base. Ammonia is obtained, with other products, on heating phenylhydrazinium methylnitronate.ALSO:The invention comprises a hydrazinium nitronate being an adduct of a hydrazineof the formula R1R2N.NH2 and a nitro compound of the formula R3R4CH.NO2, where R1, R2, R3 and R4, which may be the same or different, each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aminoalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group or R1 and R2 or R3 and R4 together with the atom to which they are attached form a ring. The adducts which may be represented by a formula <FORM:0896450/IV (b)/1> or CH3NO2.N2H4 in the case of hydrazinium methylnitronate, may be prepared by contacting the nitroparaffin in liquid form with the hydrazine or by contacting an inorganic salt of the nitroparaffin with a salt of the hydrazine and an acid strong enough to convert substantially all the hydrazine to the corresponding diazonium salt. The invention includes also a composition comprising a mixture of a nitro compound and a hydrazine as defined above, containing not less than 5% by weight of the hydrazine. Examples describe the contacting of nitromethane and nitropropane with hydrazine and methyl, dimethyl and phenyl hydrazine. Benzaldazine and salicyl aldazine are prepared by reacting hydrazinium methyl- or propylnitronate with benzaldehyde or salicylaldehyde. b -Nitro-a -arylethylhydrazines may be prepared by reacting hydrazinium methylnitronate with an aromatic aldehyde. Aniline is obtained, with other products, on heating phenylhydrazinium methyl nitronate. |
