titleOfInvention | An apparatus and method for joining yarns |
abstract | 894,851. Yarns and thread splicing. BLEYLE, M., WEBER, A., WEBER-BLEYLE, E., and GRIESINGER, A., [trading as BLEYLE OHG., WILH.] Sept. 30, 1958 [April 16, 1958], No. 31144/58. Class 120(3) Overlapping yarn ends are joined by forming at least two longitudinally spaced flexible bonds by applications of adhesive. The adhesive may be polyvinylacetate with cyclohexanol or cyclohexanone as plasticiser and methylene chloride or acetone as solvent. The drying time of the adhesive may be extended by using a mixture of solvents boiling at different temperatures. In the operation of the apparatus shown, two combedout ends 64 are lightly intertwisted, placed between grips 15 and 19, and a spring-loaded detent knob, Fig. 5 (not shown) is pressed to allow grips 15 to advance under the action of springs 61 and close with grips 19. A handle 34 is turned clockwise, Fig. 2, to a limit stop (not shown) to operate rack 22 and toothed-segment 32 gearing which raises a slide 21 and thereby withdraws slides 55 to uncover holes 56 through which applicators 25 emerge from a removable tank 6, grip the ends between their tongues, and deposit small quantities of liquid adhesive on the ends in the slots between the grips. Spring 36 is allowed to restore handle 34, slides 55 and applicators 25 to their starting positions. Handle 34 is lifted to operate rack 45, idler 43 and toothedsegment 42 gearing which lowers heaters 51 carried on pivoted levers 50 so that notched nose-pieces 52 engage the yarns to dry and melt the adhesive causing it to permeate the yarn fibres. The adhesive may be polymerized at this stage. Then the handle 34 is lowered to allow heaters 51 to be lifted by restoring springs 65 and enable yarns to harden or set. Finally the yarns are released from the apparatus by pressing handles 58. |
