titleOfInvention Process for accelerating the peroxidic hardening of unsaturated, phosphorus-containing polyesters
abstract 893,675. Hardening unsaturated polyesters containing phosphorus. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. Aug. 11, 1958 [Aug. 9, 1957], No. 25785/58. Class 2(6) Unsaturated polyester resins containing radicals of phosphorus acids are hardened in the presence of a peroxide activator accelerated by the addition of 0À001-10% by weight of the polymerizable material of an isocyanate of the formula R(NCO) x where x is an integer of 1-4 and R is hydrogen or a mono- or poly-valent alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkaryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclic radical which may be substituted with radicals not reacting with isocyanate groups, e.g. halogen, nitro or alkoxy groups. The polyesters are prepared by condensation of glycols and α,#-unsaturated dicarboxylic acids or mixtures thereof with saturated acids in the presence of phosphorus trichloride or oxychloride or phenyl phosphinic dichloride. The polyester may be mixed with not more than 50%, by weight of the total mixture, of another monomer such as styrene, α-methyl styrene, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloracetate, vinyl propionate, diallyl phthalates, acrylonitrile or triallyl cyanurate. Any dialkyl, diaryl, arylalkyl, and acyl peroxides, hydroperoxides, peracids and persalts may be used. Specified isocyanates are octadecyl-n-dodecyl-, cyclohexyl-, and phenyl-isocyanates; tetramethylene-hexamethylene-, naphthylene-, toluylene-, and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dicyclohexylmethane-diisocyanates; and naphthylene triisocyanates. Prior to hardening there may be added silica, dyes, pigments, plasticizers or glass fibres, and the compositions may be used as casting resins, coating masses, lacquers, dispersions and adhesives. Specifications 883,754, 891,704 and 893,674 are referred to.
