titleOfInvention Process for preparing l(+)-3:5-diiodothyronine
abstract L(+)-3,5-Diiodothyronine is prepared by adding brucine to a solution of DL-N-formyl-3,5-diiodothyronine, separating the sparingly soluble D(-) - N - formyl - 3, 5 - diiodothyronine/brucine salt, evaporating the solution to dryness, decomposing the residue of L(+)-N-formyl-3,5-diiodothyronine/brucine salt by means of an alkali, and eliminating the formyl radical by treatment with a hydrohalic acid. The by-product D(-)- - N - formyl - 3,5 - diiodothyronine/brucine salt may be converted to D(-)-3,5-diiodothyronine by treatment with hot alkali metal hydroxide. DL-N-Formyl-3,5-diiodothyronine is prepared by reacting DL-3,5-diiodothyronine with anhydrous formic acid in the presence of acetic anhydride.
