abstract The invention comprises compounds of the formula R1R2CCl.C(SF5)R3H, where R1 is hydrogen or chlorine, R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl, and R3 is hydrogen, or R2 and R3 are joined in a cycloalkyl ring; and their preparation by reacting a mixture of SF5Cl and R1R2C:CHR3 at about 20 DEG C.-150 DEG C. and about 5-500 atmospheres, or by subjecting the gaseous mixture to the action of ultraviolet radiation containing the 2537 Angstrom line, at about 1 atmosphere pressure. Examples prepare 2-chloroethyl sulphur pentafluoride, 2-chloropropyl sulphur pentafluoride, 2-chloro-3-butenyl sulphur pentafluoride, 2-chlorocyclohexyl sulphur pentafluoride and 2,2-dichloroethyl sulphur pentafluoride. Some of the compounds are said to have insecticidal properties. The Provisional Specification refers to compounds R1R2C(SF5).CClR3R4, where R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or halogen, or R1 and R3 may be joined, as for example in a cycloalkyl ring; and refers also to the compound CF2Cl.CF2SF5.
