titleOfInvention Organo-tin-silicon compounds
abstract Organo-tin-silicon compounds which are useful as hydraulic fluids and, either alone or mixed with conventional organosiloxane liquids, as lubricating compositions, have the formula (1) <FORM:0891089/III/1> or (2) <FORM:0891089/III/2> or are copolymers containing either or both of these units, where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, R1 is alkyl or phenyl, Z is hydrogen or methyl, m is 0 or 1 and n is 0 or 1 and is 1 only when m is 1 (see Group IV(a)).ALSO:The invention comprises organo-tin-silicon compounds which are (1) cyclic disiloxanes of the formula <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/1> or (2) linear disiloxanes of the formula <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/2> in which R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, R1 is alkyl or phenyl, Z is hydrogen or methyl, m is 0 or 1 and n is 0 or 1 and is 1 only when m is 1; or (3) copolymeric compounds consisting of any combination of units (1) and (2) above and units <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/3> where R11 is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical, s is 0 or 1, t is 1 to 3 and s+t is 1 to 3. The compounds are obtained by hydrolysis of compounds of the formula <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/4> , where Y is H or alkoxy and x is 2 or 3. These monomers are disclosed in Specification 891,087. When m is 1, best yields of cyclic compounds are obtained by thermally cracking the hydrolysate in the presence of sodium or potassium hydroxide. The copolymers are prepared by cohydrolysis or by copolymerization of the homopolymers. Among the compounds prepared in the Examples are the following: (1) <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/5> ; (2) <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/6> ; (3) <FORM:0891089/IV (a)/7> ; (4) O[SiMe2CH2SnBu3]2; (6) PhMeViSiOSiPhMeCH2SnMe2Ph; (7) a resinous copolymer containing MeSiO1,5, PhSiO1,5, Br2C6H3MeSiO, F3CCH2CH2SiO1,5 and Me2SiCH2SnBu2CH2Me2SiO- units. Uses: Lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids, additives to organosiloxane lubricants, impregnating and insulating varnishes, moulding compounds, water repellents; those compounds containing butyl groups possess anti-microbic, -fungal and -mildew properties.
