titleOfInvention A new steroid derivative, its preparation and conversion into therapeutically useful compounds
abstract The invention comprises 2-bromo-testosterone and a process for the preparation thereof by reacting 2-methoxyoxalyl- or 2-ethoxyoxalyl-testosterone having the formula <FORM:0890774/IV (b)/1> in which R represents either a methyl or an ethyl group, with bromine in an alkaline medium. Subsequently HBr may be eliminated from the product to obtain D 1-testosterone, e.g. using a lithium bromide, lithium carbonate couple.
