abstract | 2,4 - Dibromo - 16a - methyl - pregnane - 17a ,21 - diol - 3,11,20 - trione 21 - acylate is prepared by reacting 16a -methyl-pregnane-17a ,21-diol-3,11,20-trione with a brominating agent, e.g. bromine. 16a - Methyl - 1,4 - pregnadiene - 17a ,21 - diol - 3,11,20 - trione 21 - acylate is prepared by dehydrobrominating the above 2,4-dibromo compound, e.g. with a tertiary amine such as dimethylaniline or collidine, and optionally hydrolysing the 21-ester group to form the corresponding free 21-hydroxy compound. The 21-ester group may be derived from acetic, propionic, butyric or benzoic acid. Detailed examples are given. Specification 877,086 is referred to. |
