titleOfInvention Improvements relating to the resolution of lysine
abstract The invention comprises (1) the mixed alkali metal or ammonium/lysine tartrates having, in their anhydrous form the general formula <FORM:0888674/IV (b)/1> wherein M is an alkali metal or the ammonium radical and both constituents of the molecule are in optically active form; and (2) the resolution of DL-lysine with D- or L-bitartrates of the formula HOOC-CHOH-CHOH-COOM or with reagents capable of forming such bitartrates in situ. L-Lysine may be isolated from its mixed tartrate by acidifying an aqueous solution of said tartrate and subsequently purifying the lysine by passage over an ion exchanger followed, if desired, by conversion into the mono- or di-hydrochloride.
