titleOfInvention Improvements in the process for the production of suppositories
abstract Branched-chain primary fatty alcohols are made by condensing an alcohol of 14 to 20 carbon atoms with itself or another such alcohol according to the Guerbet condensation.ALSO:In the suppositories produced according to the parent Specification, there is incorporated a soap of an alkali metal, an earth metal or an alkaline earth metal. The alkali metals are defined as those of Group I of the Periodic Table, particularly lithium, sodium and potassium; the earth metals are those of Group III, particularly aluminium; and the alkaline earth metals are those of Group II, particularly magnesium, calcium, zinc, strontium and barium. Suitable fatty acids for the production of the soaps are palmitic, stearic, erucic, brassidic and behenic acids. In the examples: (a) magnesium stearate and (b) zinc behenate are incorporated into fatty alcohols containing 28-36 carbon atoms, prepared according to the Guerbet reaction, and the fused mass is made into suppositories in known manner.
