titleOfInvention Novel diiodo-pyridones and compositions containing them
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0886094/IV (b)/1> where R1 and R2 are straight or branched alkylene radicals together containing not more than 4 carbon atoms, and their preparation by reacting an alkali metal salt of 3 : 5-diiodo-pyridone-(4) with a compound Hal-R1-CO-NH-R2-COOR1 where Hal is Cl or Br and R1 is lower alkyl, and converting the resulting esters by alkaline hydrolysis into the free acid.ALSO:The invention comprises an aqueous suspension of a contrast agent for preparing bronchographies and hysterosalpingographies containing a thickening agent and, as shadow-giving substance, 30-60% w/v. of a compound of formula <FORM:0886094/VI/1> where R1 and R2 are straight or branched alkylene radicals together containing not more than 4 carbon atoms. A specified composition contains per litre 3 : 5-diiodo-4-pyridone-N-acetic acid - N1 - carboxymethylamide (500 g.), sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (4 g.) and glycose (38 g.). In place of the carboxymethyl cellulose, other specified thickening agents are dextran, carboxymethyl starch, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol.
