abstract | 885,856. Recording ink. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIKEN N.V. March 6, 1958 [March 9, 1957], No. 7252/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 146(3) An ink for use in recording apparatus consists of an organic synthetic dye in a carrier, free from resin and thickening agents and consisting of a non-ionic carbon-hydrogen-oxygen compound containing at least 6 carbon atoms and boiling above 240‹C. Suitable carriers are tri, tetra, penta or hexaethylene or propylene glycol; tri, tetra or penta glycrol; ethers, e.g. mono-myristyl, obyl or lauryl ether of one of the above compounds; fatty acid mono-esters, e.g. sorbitan monomyristalic, oleate or laurate, or tris-ethers of such mono-esters with polyethylene glycol or polyglycol. The ink should have a viscosity at room temperature not in excess of 15 poises. Suitable inks are made up as follows:- I. Sorbitan mono-laurate; the mono-lacryl ether of hexaethylene glycol; a dyestuff. II. Tetra ethylene glycol with or without sorbitan monolaurate or mono-lauryl ether of hexaethylene glycol and a dyestuff. III. Mono lauryl ether of hexaethylene glycol and a dyestuff. IV. A mixture of sorbitan mono laurate and dibutyl phthalate is also a suitable carrier, the dibutyl phthalate being sparingly volatile and ensuring that when the ink pad is almost exhausted the colouring matter content of the remaining ink is high and good marks are still obtainable. Sorbitan three times etherified with hexaethylene glycol and once esterified with oleic acid is also useful as a carrier. A number of suitable dyestuffs are mentioned in the Specification. |
