titleOfInvention | New anthelmintic compositions containing piperazine or a derivative thereof |
abstract | An anthelmintic composition in the form of a highly concentrated and stable aqueous solution comprises a mixture of a water-soluble copper salt, piperazine or its hexahydrate, citrate or tartrate, a water-soluble arsenic compound, water and either hydrochloric acid sufficient to give a solution having a pH of less than 2.4 when trivalent arsenic is present and less than 1.6 when pentavalent arsenic is present or a water-soluble sequestering agent when the pH of the solution is greater than 2.4 when trivalent arsenic is present and greater than 1.6 when pentavalent arsenic is present. Specified copper salts are the sulphate, chloride, nitrate, citrate or tartrate. The water-soluble copper salt may also be formed in situ from a water-insoluble copper compound such as the oxide or carbonate. The arsenic compound is added to the mixture as a compound which will produce a water-soluble compound when mixed with the other components of the composition e.g. arsenic trioxide or pentoxide or the alkali metal such as sodium arsenites or arsenates. Specified sequestering agents are the organic hydroxy carboxylic acids e.g. citric or tartaric acid. |
