abstract The invention comprises a compound of the formula <FORM:0882604/IV (b)/1> wherein X is the carbonyl radical or the hydroxymethylene radical and a process for the preparation thereof which comprises subjecting a compound of the formula: <FORM:0882604/IV (b)/2> to 1 - dehydrogenation using microbiological fermentation or selenium dioxide. Suitable micro-organisms are Septomyxa, Corynebacterium and Fusarium. The 6b compound may be epimerised to the 6a compound by means of an acid or a base. Compounds produced are 1-dehydro-6a -fluoro-11b -hydroxyprogesterone, 1-dehydro-6b -fluoro-11b -hydroxyprogesterone, 1-dehydro-6a -fluoro-11a -hydroxyprogesterone, 1-dehydro-6b -fluoro-11a -hydroxyprogesterone, 1 - dehydro - 6a - fluoro - 11 - ketoprogesterone and 1-dehydro-6b -fluoro-11-ketoprogesterone.
